Wildfires spread quickly in north Oklahoma City, Edmond and Guthrie on Friday, March 31 causing many to lose their homes. Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief (DR) supported first responders providing meals on Friday and Saturday (April 1).

Falls Creek ‘Road Show’ gets results
DAVIS, Okla. (BP) -- Anywhere from 5,000 to 8,000 students attend a camp at Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center in Oklahoma each summer. This year, the COVID-19 pandemic made large, overnight gatherings impossible. Since students couldn't to come to Falls Creek, camp organizers took Falls Creek to them. Fourteen Falls Creek Road Shows made stops around the state.
Greear to students: ‘Follow Jesus’ call’
DAVIS, Okla. -- J.D. Greear has experience preaching to college students. The church he pastors -- The Summit Church in Durham, N.C. -- has a reputation of drawing many collegians from the Raleigh-Durham, N.C., area. The current president of the Southern Baptist Convention seemed like a natural fit to speak at Collegiate Week, which Greear did Aug. 6. This was the second consecutive year Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center in Davis, Okla., hosted Collegiate Week, Aug. 4-8. LifeWay Christian Resources sponsors the event.
MedAdvance connects medical workers to missions
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (BP) -- Medical professionals and medical missionaries met together this month to discuss how to share the Gospel and care for health needs around the world. Attendees gathered July 18-20 for the MedAdvance conference at Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. The event is part of the International Mission Board's (IMB) strategy to introduce medical missions opportunities to Southern Baptist healthcare professionals.

Church cheers for high school football team
OKLAHOMA CITY (BP) -- How can a church impact its community? How about adopting a high school football team? Cherokee Hills Baptist Church is investing in Putnam City High School as families "adopt" players on the Pirates' football team by going to home games and cheering them on. The idea happened as pastor Mike Keahbone was looking for ways the Oklahoma City church could have a community presence. "We started praying for God to open doors," Keahbone recounted. "And Kyle Hale [Putnam City assistant football coach] started coming to our church earlier this year." Keahbone got to know Hale better as church members served lunch to the players during the preseason two-a-days practices.
