Ohio Baptists add a day for family Bible conferenceSANDUSKY, Ohio (BP) -- A first-ever Bible Conference on the Family sponsored by the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio preceded the convention's annual meeting in Sandusky.
The Nov. 6 sessions led by Geoff & Sherry Surratt of Ministry Together aimed to minister to all families, especially those of pastors and church staff.

Ohio Baptists hold to 50-50 SBC distributionCHILLICOTHE, Ohio (BP) -- With the sound of the "Ray Roberts Gavel" -- honoring a former State Convention of Baptists in Ohio executive director for whom the state missions offering is named -- SBCO President David Starry called the convention's 64th annual meeting to order Nov. 8.
The meeting was hosted by Chillicothe Baptist Church whose pastor Timothy Cline welcomed the 260-plus participants.
Starry, pastor of Vandalia First Baptist Church, chose the theme "Mission Ohio: Moving Forward with Your Head Up" to guide the one-day meeting in historic Chillicothe, the first capital of Ohio. Read More
Orville Griffin, former Ohio exec, dies at 85COLUMBUS, Ohio (BP) -- Orville H. Griffin, former executive director/treasurer of the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio, died Sept. 18 at age 85 after several months of illness, according to a report from the Ohio convention.
Griffin was the convention's executive director from 1992-1997 during 43 years of ministry in Ohio.
"The legacy of Orville Heath Griffin is one rooted in the Great Commission and devoted to the Lord Jesus he loved and served so faithfully," said Jack Kwok, who succeeded Griffin. "He set a high mark for those who follow." Read More

PATASKALA, Ohio (BP) -- "Engage Ohio: All for Him" was the theme of the Nov. 3-4 annual meeting of the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio at the Columbus-area Jersey Baptist Church in Pataskala.
SBCO President Mark Stinson, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Cambridge, called the 62nd annual meeting to order, with host pastor John Hayes, a former SBCO president, welcoming messengers and guests, who numbered 257 and 28, respectively, by the end of the meeting. Read More
Ohio Baptists praying outside 88 county seatsCOLUMBUS, Ohio (BP) -- Ohio Southern Baptists are praying publicly outside all 88 county headquarters across the state through May 29, proclaiming Scripture, praising Jesus and pleading for county officials, businesses and community concerns, organizer Cathy Pound told Baptist Press.
"Most of the counties have specific concerns," said Pound, Women's Missions and Ministries Resource Group leader with the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio. "Maybe it's single moms, maybe it's drug addiction, maybe it's sex trafficking; whatever their specific concerns are, we've been lifting those concerns up." Read More
