Greear announces sexual abuse study groupDURHAM, N.C. (BP) -- Southern Baptist Convention President J.D. Greear has announced he will form a Sexual Abuse Presidential Study Group in partnership with the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission.
A release from Greear's office stated, "This presidential study group will consist of outside experts and Southern Baptist leaders who will advise Greear on issues related to sexual abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence and related subjects."
Greear's office told Baptist Press the study group's members will be announced at a later date. It will be a "working study group" with "fluid" membership, including outside experts, denominational leaders and local church pastors, Greear's office stated. Read More

Greear confronts SBC challenges in NPR interviewNASHVILLE (BP) -- Newly elected Southern Baptist Convention president J.D. Greear addressed topics ranging from the #MeToo crisis to politics and evangelicals in a recent interview with NPR, one of his first since taking the role.

Hispanic Alliance welcomes J.D. Greear, new SBC pres.DALLAS (BP) -- More than 100 pastors and their wives attended the Hispanic Baptist Pastors' Alliance Tuesday (June 12), welcoming new SBC President J.D. Greear during a morning of worship, fellowship and a call to go beyond the church walls.
Greear, pastor of The Summit Church in North Carolina, kicked off the meeting telling pastors about several areas he sees as important to unity and proclamation of the Gospel.
First, Greear said, the Gospel must be what the churches unite around. Next, people of other cultures within the SBC need to be elevated to positions of leadership. As a convention there needs to be a re-focus on evangelism and a renewed commitment to planting churches at home and around the world, something he thinks Hispanics are key to as they are able to go places Anglos can't. J.D. Greear to be SBC president nomineeST. LOUIS (BP) -- North Carolina pastor J.D. Greear will be nominated for president of the Southern Baptist Convention, Florida pastor Jimmy Scroggins announced today (March 2).
Greear, 42, "is leading his generation to live out a passion for the SBC, missions and the local church," Scroggins, pastor of Family Church in West Palm Beach, Fla., wrote in a news release stating his intention to nominate Greear at the SBC annual meeting in June. Read More
