    FRANKFORT, Ky. (BP) -- Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has appointed a seminary vice president, Daniel S. Dumas, to oversee the revamping of the state's adoption and foster care system.

    ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP) -- Lynette Ezell and Tera Melber shared many joys, frustrations, challenges and triumphs over the last 15 years as their families have journeyed through the process of adopting children. Now, they are sharing that experience and knowledge with others.

    Hosting the North American Mission Board's "Adopting and Fostering Home" podcast, the two friends seek to encourage and equip God's people and the church to battle for the hearts and lives of children at risk.

    "We believe that if the church is going to champion the cause of foster care and adoption, the church has to be prepared for what that means on a daily basis," Melber noted.

    Melber and Ezell would know. They have watched their daughters and sons process and make sense of birth stories and unanswered questions.

(BP) -- Kentucky First Lady Glenna Bevin urged 300 attendees during a Woman's Auxiliary luncheon at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary to step out of their comfort zones and get involved with foster care and adoption.     NASHVILLE (BP) -- Tennessee's Department of Children's Services has found a valuable partner to help improve the state's foster care system: faith-based organizations like the Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes.

    Since December, TBCH has participated in a collaboration of government and the private sector to encourage foster parenting. Known as TN Fosters, the collaboration seeks to unite state government, faith groups, nonprofit organizations and businesses in recruiting foster parents and supporting foster families. Read More

    WASHINGTON (BP) -- Advocates for children needing families voiced their approval of new federal legislation designed to improve the placement of children in quality foster care families at a time of increased demand for such homes.

    The National Adoption and Foster Care Home Study Act, introduced March 21, would enhance the matching of children and families in the foster care system by establishing a national standard and database for increased uniformity and transparency. The measure would permit foster care and adoption agencies throughout the country to gain information about potential families through a secure process. Read More

    STILLWATER, Okla. (BP) -- Bobby and Molly Edwards are models of God's mandate in James 1:27 to love and care for those whom society often neglects. Since 2006, they have opened their home and hearts to nearly 60 foster children.

    Molly herself was adopted through the foster system and her parents hosted 101 foster children in their home.

    IRVING, Texas (BP) -- Many parents approach their children's teenage years with some trepidation, but Kelly and Shellie Carson began parenting at age 28 by adopting 17-year-old Kiir just before he aged out of the Texas foster care system.
