(BP) -- In his final address to trustees as International Mission Board president, David Platt urged the IMB's leaders to "rise above" current challenges in the Southern Baptist Convention in order to reach the world's "2.8 billion people who have little to no access" to the Gospel.
Among the SBC's challenges claimed in Platt's Sept. 26 address were a failure to disciple new believers and an unhealthy political climate within the convention.

TRUSTEES: IMB transitions from Platt to interim MeadorRICHMOND, VA. (BP) -- International Mission Board trustees heard a final address from outgoing president David Platt and approved Clyde Meador as interim president during their Sept. 26-27 meeting near Richmond, Va.
Trustees appointed 66 new fully funded personnel to take the Gospel to unreached people and places and approved a balanced budget for 2018-2019 and a recommendation about trustee representation from state conventions. Platt to step down from IMB; Meador named as interimRICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- After receiving the resignation of David Platt as president of the International Mission Board, to be effective at the Sept. 27 trustee meeting, the trustees' executive committee voted in a special meeting Sept. 13 to name Clyde Meador as interim president, subject to full board approval.
Platt has served as IMB president since Aug. 27, 2014. Since September of last year, he also has served as pastor/teacher of McLean Bible Church in metro Washington, D.C. On Feb. 12 of this year, Platt asked IMB trustees to begin searching for his successor. IMB's Platt initiates sexual abuse investigationsRICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- Two "thorough, outside, independent" investigations have been initiated by International Mission Board President David Platt into the IMB's handling of any past sexual abuse allegations and into its policies of zero tolerance for such abuse.
Platt also stated a public apology to Anne Marie Miller, who has alleged sexual abuse by an individual who subsequently became an IMB missionary yet was not reported to authorities following a 2007 IMB inquiry into the matter.
Platt 'challenged everybody' at Korean gatheringCARROLLTON, Texas (BP) -- More than 900 Korean leaders and their families heard International Mission Board President David Platt's challenge to reach the world during the annual gathering of the Council of Korean Southern Baptist Churches in America.
The fellowship, known informally as the Korean Council and encompassing 850 Korean-language churches, meets for three days each year in the same city and same week as the SBC annual meeting. Tuesday afternoon is left free and bus transportation is provided so the Koreans can participate in the day's session of the SBC annual meeting and vote for the next SBC president. Read More
Platt underscores Lottie Moon's urgency for the GospelDALLAS (BP) -- This year's Southern Baptist Convention marked the 100th anniversary of the naming of the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, International Mission Board President David Platt told more than 1,100 Southern Baptists at the IMB dinner June 11 at the SBC annual meeting in Dallas.
Lottie Moon was a single female missionary who served with the Foreign Mission Board (now IMB) in China from 1873 until her death on Dec. 24, 1912, aboard a ship in the harbor of Kobe, Japan. She is among Southern Baptists' most well-known missionaries, thanks to the passionate letters she wrote to people back home advocating for more workers and more financial resources. Read More
IMB trustees name presidential search committeeRICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- The International Mission Board began the search for a successor to David Platt to lead the SBC entity during their Feb. 28-March 1 meeting in the Richmond, Va., area.
Platt, the mission board's president, reiterated his desire that the 173-year-old Southern Baptist entity stay on course for taking the Gospel to the world's darkest, hardest-to-reach places. To that end, IMB trustees approved the appointment of 20 new fulltime, fully funded missionaries.

David Platt to transition out of IMB presidencyRICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- David Platt has announced plans to transition out of his role as president of the International Mission Board but will continue to serve until a new president is selected.
Platt told trustees, missionaries and staff today (Feb. 12) that during his nearly four-year tenure at the IMB, he has been "burdened to continue preaching and leading in the local church," which led to assuming a teaching pastor role at McLean Bible Church in Northern Virginia, alongside his leadership of the IMB.
