Charles Stanley: photography an 'awesome opportunity'NASHVILLE (BP) -- Charles Stanley's journey into photography began decades ago with a borrowed camera he had no idea how to use.
"I didn't have a camera, and I was going on a mission trip to Haiti," he told attendees at the 2019 Southeastern Photojournalism Conference. "My wife had the finest camera Kodak made in those days, and she said, 'Why don't you just take my camera?'"
With some coaching from the man seated next to him on the plane to Haiti, he learned just enough for the trip.

Photojournalism conference to honor Charles StanleyNASHVILLE (BP) -- Charles Stanley will be honored for his use of photography in ministry during the Southeastern Photojournalism Conference Feb. 1-2 at the SBC Building in Nashville.
Stanley, a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention, is the longtime senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Atlanta, founder of In Touch Ministries and an accomplished photographer.
Stanley's photography is "an inspiration, and his use of the visual image to share the Gospel has impacted so many people," said conference director Bob Carey, a former president of the National Press Photographers Association. Read More

Although the succession plan does not include a fixed date, it does officially provide for the transition to George "at such time in the future, known only to God," when Stanley, 85, ceases to be First Baptist's senior pastor, according to a report in The Christian Index, newsjournal of the Georgia Baptist Convention.
