    OKLAHOMA CITY (BP) -- While teacher walkouts are taking place this spring across the country, Oklahoma Baptists were there for displaced students during a nine-day walkout that made headlines beginning April 2 at the Oklahoma State Capitol.

    As it became clear that schools across the state would close as teachers protested for higher pay and more school funding, questions surfaced as to where meals would come for children who depend on school breakfast or lunches.   • Hance Dilbeck elected as Okla. executive director

    OKLAHOMA CITY (BP) -- Hance Dilbeck was elected as the next executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma in a unanimous vote by the BGCO Board of Directors Dec. 11 in Oklahoma City.

    Dilbeck, who has served as senior pastor of Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City since 2003, will become the ninth executive director in the convention's 101-year history. Dilbeck will succeed current BGCO Executive Director-Treasurer Anthony Jordan, who has led the convention since April 1996.

    Members of the BGCO Executive Search Committee, who began their search last September, spoke enthusiastically about Dilbeck during the Dec. 11 meeting at the Baptist Building, voicing how they believe God guided the decision process. Read More

    OKLAHOMA CITY (BP) -- On Dec. 11, board members of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma will gather at the Baptist Building in Oklahoma City to consider a recommendation to make Hance Dilbeck the next BGCO executive director-treasurer.

    The nomination of Dilbeck, who serves as pastor of Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, comes from the BGCO Board of Directors' Executive Director-Treasurer Search Committee. The committee formed and a search began after current BGCO Executive Director-Treasurer Anthony Jordan announced his retirement plans in September. Read More

    OKLAHOMA CITY (BP) -- Anthony Jordan delivered his final address as executive director-treasurer of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma during the Nov. 13-14 annual meeting at Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.

    Jordan, who will retire next April after 22 years of leading the convention, also announced a new ministry opportunity for Oklahoma Baptists, reporting that the BGCO will be given the 199-acre Tulakogee Camp and Conference Center in eastern Oklahoma. Read More

    OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (BP) -- Anthony L. Jordan, who has served as executive director-treasurer of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma since April 1996, announced Tuesday (Sept. 12) his plans to retire next year.

    Jordan's nearly 22-year tenure stands as the longest of any to hold that role in Oklahoma. He announced his decision to retire during the BGCO Board of Directors meeting.

    OKLAHOMA CITY (BP) -- Volunteers for Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief are taking steps to ensure they are good stewards of what the Lord has given them.

    Following historic floods in Louisiana last August, volunteers served 20,000 meals a day. And some volunteers decided to take action after they saw the amount of cardboard that wasn't being used or recycled. Read More
