    LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (BP) -- It's not just by chance that Calvary Baptist Church has grown from fewer than 100 to more than 2,000 in worship each week, said the church's pastor.

    Pastor Chad Garrison cited the church's "extreme mission focus" plus "God's enabling" for its growth during the 25 years he has pastored Calvary in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. He noted that the church is healthy because its members have been "empowered to do what God calls them to do." Read More

  • LGBT themes spread in kids' entertainment

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Themes promoting gay, bisexual and transgender lifestyles are becoming more prevalent in entertainment expressly marketed to children, most notably with Disney's upcoming version of "Beauty and the Beast."

    Disney's remake of Beauty and the Beast debuting in theaters March 17 will include a reimagined LeFou, who will express a homosexual yet conflicted attraction to the brutish and macho Gaston, the movie's director Bill Condon told the gay Attitude Magazine. Read More

  • IMB technology dept. announces new structure

    RICHMOND, Va. (BP) -- The International Mission Board's Technology Solutions leader announced a new structure designed to more wisely leverage technology for the accomplishment of the entity's mission during a board-wide town hall meeting Thursday (March 2).

    The reorganization of the information technology team is designed to achieve a higher level of services and enhance security for Southern Baptist international missionaries, IMB leadership announced. The decision was driven by a shift to the cloud (off-site data storage) and other industry-wide technology changes, which fundamentally allow users to accomplish more with fewer resources. Read More

  • Nat'l CP 4.86% ahead of projection

    NASHVILLE (BP) -- Year-to-date contributions to Southern Baptist Convention national and international missions and ministries received by the SBC Executive Committee are 4.86 percent above the year-to-date budgeted projection, and are 0.86 percent below contributions received during the same time frame last year, according to a news release from SBC Executive Committee President and CEO Frank S. Page. The total includes receipts from state conventions and fellowships, churches and individuals for distribution according to the 2016-17 SBC Cooperative Program Allocation Budget. Read More

  • Free speech mission 'indispensable,' says NRB leader

    ORLANDO, Fla. (BP) -- Protecting the freedom of speech is as vital to the National Religious Broadcasters' mission today as it was when the association was founded in 1944, the group's president and CEO, Jerry A. Johnson, said.

    Johnson gave his State of the Association speech in Orlando, Fla., at the Orlando World Center Marriott in the opening session of Proclaim 17, NRB's International Christian Media Convention. During the session, he also read a statement regarding the terrorist killing of 49 people and injury to 53 others at the city's Pulse nightclub in June. The statement -- affirmed unanimously by both NRB's Executive Committee and Board of Directors -- expressed compassion for victims, as well as their family and friends, and led into a time of prayer.     BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (Baptist and Reflector) -- Las iglesias bautistas étnicas asociadas a la Convención Bautista de Tennessee (TBC por sus siglas en inglés) casi se han duplicado en número -- cerca de 200 -- en los últimos 18 meses.
