Christy Gold named as Southern Baptist Foundation treasurer

NASHVILLE (BP) — The Southern Baptist Foundation has named Christy Gold as its new treasurer, Warren Peek, the foundation’s president, has announced.

She succeeds Judy Garner, who retired April 30 after 27 years with the foundation.

Gold, a CPA who joined the staff in 2015, will supervise all funds and securities of the foundation, prepare all financial reports for the board of directors and present the reports to the board.

After earning an accounting degree from Murray State University in Kentucky and her CPA, Gold gained 20 years of experience with Frasier, Dean & Howard, CPAs and Deloitte and Touche, LLP.

She is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Tennessee Society of CPAs.

A native of Erin, Tenn., Gold and her husband Doug have two children and reside in Hendersonville, Tenn.

“We are excited to have Christy in this new role,” Peek said. “We know she will do a great job and look forward to seeing her grow in this new endeavor.”

The Southern Baptist Foundation, established in 1947, provides a wide range of investment and estate planning services.

During its 2018 fiscal year (Oct. 1-Sept. 30) the foundation:

— Surpassed $600,000 in cumulative Cooperative Program giving and missionary estate plans, up from just over $385,000 at the end of the previous fiscal year.

— Surpassed $4 billion in distributions to Southern Baptist causes and other Christian organizations since its founding.

— Facilitated $105,164,963 in future legacy gifts — up from $73,943,841 in the 2017 fiscal year — to such causes as the IMB, NAMB, children’s homes, the SBC’s seminaries and local churches through individual and family estate plans. Since starting its legacy planning service in October 2013, the foundation has assisted more than 1,800 individuals or families, from missionaries to people in all walks of life, in investing all or part of their financial gains in Christian causes.

Jen Wilkin among Women & Work speakers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) — “Stepping into Kingdom Productivity” will be the theme of a Women & Work Forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, in the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Forum Theatre, Level 2, during the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting in Birmingham, Ala.

Speakers at the forum will include author and Bible teacher Jen Wilkin of The Village Church in Dallas, and Tami Heim, president and CEO of the Christian Leadership Alliance.

Heim, quoted in a Women & Work news release, noted, “Throughout Scripture and history, women of faith have effectively co-labored to advance the Gospel wherever they served. In this present day, it is no different. To be faithful stewards of God’s gifts, women must embrace where they are and how God is leading them to walk in the plans the Father has already prepared.”

Women & Work launched in 2018, hosting its first forum during the SBC annual meeting in Dallas.

Women & Work exists “to see women confidently step into their God-given calling and view their work as meaningful to the Kingdom of God” and “to inspire women to honor God, image Him through their work, and leverage their potential for His glory,” according to the organization’s news release.

Women & Work holds a complementarian viewpoint, cited as one of their six values, the news release stated. “They recognize and honor the distinctions God designed between men and women and their differing roles in the home and church, and celebrate work as an opportunity to express the equality of the two genders, especially as it provides a space for women to freely operate in the fullness of who God made them to be.”

The organization is led by a board of directors that includes Courtney L. Moore, founder and executive director; Faith Whatley of LifeWay Christian Resources; Courtney Reissig, Bible teacher and author of “Glory in the Ordinary” (Crossway 2017); Penney Smith of Smith & Associates Healthcare Consulting, LLC; Amy Whitfield, director of communications at Southeastern Theological Baptist Seminary; and Missie Branch, assistant dean of students to women and director of graduate life at Southeastern.

Whitfield, in the news release, said, “God has given all of us a mission and each of us a unique calling. Wherever we are, we are called to do His work. Events like this give women a chance to learn from one another and grow together as we consider how we can best serve the Kingdom.”

Whatley said, “A calling for a woman can be unique in different seasons. Your gifting can be used in every season of life. Come be part of this important discussion to grow in your understanding of how this can look in your life.”

Each woman who attends the forum will receive a copy of Whitney Capp’s new book, “Sick of Me: From Transparency to Transformation,” courtesy of B&H Publishing as well as other publications contributed by LifeWay Women. Each attendee’s name will be placed into a drawing for the chance to receive one of various door prizes.

Women can register for the free event at womenwork.net/events.
