Next ‘Family Movie Night’ film airs Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP) — The ninth installment in Walmart and Procter & Gamble’s Family Movie Night initiative airs Friday on NBC when “Game of Your Life” — a “techy” drama — is broadcast at 8 Eastern.

The storyline follows four college students enrolled at the “Digital Institute of Game Design.”

Family Movie Night is an initiative launched by Walmart and Procter and Gamble to air regular movies for the whole family. The goal is to make the films weekly, but that will only be achieved if the current films — airing every month or two — are successful, officials with the two companies say. Even the commercials that run are designed to be family friendly.

Actor Titus Makin Jr., who stars in Game of Your Life, said the role was one he gladly accepted. When he learned of it, he said his first response was, “This is what I’ve been waiting to do.”

“[It’s] something I don’t have to worry about the words being said or the storyline that’s coming across,” Makin said during a teleconference with reporters. “I know it’s [going to be] accepted by my little cousins back in Georgia…. It’s just a nice clean project that everyone can appreciate.”

Families need to “vote with their remote,” said Brian Wells, the executive producer of the family night films.

“There is this big, fat, giant experiment going on right now through Family Movie Night with the networks and even the networks that aren’t involved that are all watching this to say, ‘Boy, do families really show up for this kind of content or not?'” said Wells, who is the chief creative officer for Fly Over Studios.
