Students to ‘Connect’ at SBC annual meeting

PHOENIX (BP)–The SBC Student Conference will offer an opportunity to “Connect” during the SBC annual meeting in Phoenix.

The Connect evangelism strategy for middle school and high school students, designed by the Southern Baptist Convention’s North American Mission Board, will be the June 17 conference’s focus.

“It’s very simple,” said Len Taylor, NAMB’s director of student evangelism. “It’s connect with God, connect with a friend, connect that friend with God, and connect that friend to a local church.”

Evangelist Thomas Young of Houston will be the featured speaker.

The SBC Student Conference will be held at Symphony Hall in Phoenix, adjacent to the Phoenix Civic Plaza. It will begin at 4 p.m. with inflatable games and other outdoor activities on the Terrace of Symphony Hall, followed by a worship rally from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The conference this year is a joint effort of NAMB, the Arizona Baptist Convention and the Frontliners youth evangelism ministry.

Arizona Baptist churches will be participating in the event as their annual youth evangelism conference, while several hundred Frontliners participants will participate as part of a weeklong evangelism training experience in Phoenix.

“NAMB is taking a new angle in the schedule at the SBC in 2003,” Taylor added. “We hope to compress the schedule for the student conference to make it easier for local groups to attend, while still accomplishing the goals we have set out to accomplish with Arizona Baptists.”

There is no charge for the conference, although a small fee will be charged for unlimited use of the inflatable rides. Registration begins at 4 p.m.
